Snakes, whether they be friend or foe, can be bad for small animal populations, like the cute little shrew. One if the tell tale signs that a St Louis snake is near your property is the fact that a snake has shed its skin. But how can you tell if the strange object you have found is the remnants of what was a snakes skin, and what type of snake it is?
This simple answer to help find out what type of Missouri snake it is from the skin is by looking at it.
The skin of a snake can tell you one of the more important questions which you may have about the snake and that's why it is there. Every different snake has a different type of skin, and so the skin that is shed can again be different to that.
Once you have determined the skin you are able to figure out what type it is, and what type of food it eats, for example a rat snake will hunt for rats.
If you are determined to find out what type of St Louis snake it is, you may want to invest in a book which tells you what to look out for in each snake
If you are trying to work out if the Missouri snake is venomous or not, there are a few tell tale signs which usually help. These are if the anal plate (the last scale before the tail) is split into two, and the head is arrow shaped/there is a pit in between the eye and the nostril. These are better at determining if it is venomous than by identifying the colours of it, as they do not wear off as quickly as colours if left exposed to the elements for a period of time.
